A new chapter in collegiate footwear history is here. Division St., a student-athlete empowerment organization with University of Oregon roots, returns with a fresh take on the legendary Nike Air Max 1.

The Division St. x Nike Air Max 1 ’87 features a premium build with a twist. The shoe showcases buttery Horween leather and perforated leather for breathability. Built for comfort, the eye-catching animal print steals the show. A stunning iridescent green collar adds a touch of grandeur, reminiscent of a majestic Northern Shoveler duck.

Ducks are a recurring theme. The tongue tag proudly displays the “DOAF” (Ducks of a Feather) motto, a symbol of a new era for student-athletes. The heel features a heartwarming sentiment: “Once a Duck, always a Duck,” reminding everyone of the university’s connections.

A classic white midsole and a tan outsole complete the design, staying true to tradition while referencing the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty.

When were Air Max 1 released?

In 1987, the Air Max 1 changed the world of footwear forever. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the icon made the invisible visible, with the arrival of visible Air Max cushioning.

Air Max Vs AF: 3 key differences in the Nike sneakers

1) Design

The most noticeable difference between Air Max and Air Force is the design of the shoes. Both sneakers are known for their unique and eye-catching designs. However, Air Max shoes feature a visible air unit in the sole, which gives them a distinct, futuristic look.

Air Force , on the other hand, have a more classic design with a smooth, solid sole.

2) Comfort

Both Air Max and Air Force are designed with comfort in mind, but they use different technologies to achieve this. Air Max shoes have a more cushioned sole with a larger air unit, which provides a bouncier and more responsive feel. Air Force shoes have a more traditional sole with less cushioning, which provides a firmer and more stable feel.

3) Functionality

While both Air Max and Air Force are popular for casual wear, they have different intended purposes. Air Max shoes are designed more for running and athletic activities, while Air Force shoes are designed more for basketball and other court sports.

Air Max are typically lighter and more flexible, while Air Force are more durable and supportive.

In an exciting nod to one of the most unique and sought-after collaborations in sneaker history, Nike is set to bring back the Air Max 1 “Grand Piano,” a silhouette that first captivated the sneaker world back in 2009.

Created in partnership with Taiwan’s only Nike Tier Zero retailer, PHANTACi, and the visionary minds of its directors Ric and Jay Chou, this sneaker stands as a testament to the fusion of musical inspiration and sneaker design.

The “Grand Piano” was conceptualized with the elegance and sophistication of its namesake instrument in mind, resulting in a design that is both visually striking and rich in narrative. Its clever use of materials and color palette draws direct parallels to a grand piano’s iconic aesthetic. The upper features black patent leather, mimicking the glossy, polished finish of a piano, contrasted with sections of pristine white that recall the keys themselves. This harmonious blend of black and white not only pays homage to the piano’s classic look but also elevates the Air Max 1 silhouette to new heights of luxury and style.

Adding a touch of exclusivity and a nod to PHANTACi’s branding, the sneaker incorporates pink velvet on the lining and sole. This choice of material and color adds a soft, luxurious feel to the design, underscoring PHANTACi’s signature hue and further embedding the retailer’s identity into the sneaker. The inclusion of pink also introduces a vibrant pop of color that beautifully complements the monochromatic upper, making the “Grand Piano” Air Max 1 a standout piece.

Upon its initial release, the Air Max 1 “Grand Piano” was met with widespread acclaim, quickly becoming a coveted item among collectors and sneaker enthusiasts alike. Its limited availability— with only 400 pairs released—added to its allure, making it one of the most exclusive Air Max 1 collaborations to date.

As Nike prepares to reissue this iconic sneaker, fans old and new are offered a second chance to own a piece of sneaker history. The return of the Air Max 1 “Grand Piano” not only celebrates the original collaboration’s success but also reinforces Nike’s commitment to bringing innovative and meaningful designs to the forefront of sneaker culture.

The Air Max 1 is coming on in droves for its 35th birthday in 2023, from OG remasters to whimsical colorways for the fairway, Tinker Hatfield’s revolutionary trainer is poised for a colossal year. Tinker Hatfield’s innovative sneaker is all set for a monumental year.

This Air Max 1 combines classic tooling and bright hues that are perfect for the warmer weather ahead. Summer and Air Max 1s go together like peas and carrots, its lightweight and breathable qualities that made these an ideal running shoe when they first dropped are now ideal for enjoying the hotter temperatures.

Exercising a staple balance of white mesh and light grey overlays that have iconized the silhouette for well over 35 years, the 1986 reminiscent color blocking receives a contemporary infusion of bright teal hues. Sat atop your standard white midsole, a supple blue leather forms the mudguard and Swoosh, two key panels when creating a new AM1 make-up. The upper eyestays, rear embroidery, and tongue branding also feature the titular hue, while classic white midsoles and tri-color rubber outsoles complete the design.

Taking cues from the delightful tri-color palette of Neapolitan ice cream, the upcoming Air Max 1 “Valentine’s Day” edition is a heartfelt homage to love and affection. Draped in a Neapolitan-inspired palette of Sail, Light Soft Pink, Coconut Milk, Varsity Red, and Baroque Brown, the shoe features a mix of mesh and premium leather materials.

At the heart of this enticing design is an expert blend of vanilla-hued quarter panels, complemented by sumptuous chocolate mudguards, capturing the essence of a perfect scoop. But it doesn’t stop there; The Pink Swooshes, tongue branding, and Red embroidered “Nike Air” on the heels emphasize the love-centric design. As an ode to this dessert’s trifecta of flavors, the outsole proudly parades a melange of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry tones, encapsulating the shoe’s overarching theme.

The charm of this release is further elevated with adorable heart details gracing its toe cap and outsole, seamlessly tying in with the Valentine’s theme. To wrap up this love letter in sneaker form, a bright red “Nike Air” embroidery stands out, hinting at the passion behind this creation. The White midsole with visible Air Max heel units, atop a Baroque Brown rubber outsole, completes this charming creation.

Chicago and footwear go hand in hand, like jazz and blues in a smoky club. This city isn’t just known for its towering skyscrapers and delicious deep-dish pizzas; it has firmly etched its legacy in the annals of sneaker culture. Most notably, the Windy City gifted us the iconic Air Jordan 1 colorway, a design that is a testament to the city’s enduring impact on street fashion. Over the years, numerous shoes have tipped their hat to Chicago, and now Nike is set to continue that tradition.

Unveiled from Nike’s treasure trove, the Air Max 1 – a silhouette that changed the game in 1987 under the visionary craftsmanship of Tinker Hatfield – is making waves once again. Nike Sportswear is preparing to launch the Air Max 1 ’86 “Chicago” as part of the highly-anticipated “Chicago Pack” this October.

Painted with a harmonious blend of White, Blue Chill, and Wolf Grey, this release isn’t just a shoe; it’s a canvas that captures the essence of Chicago. Crafted with insights from the city’s local shops, its design intricacies resonate deeply with the Chi-town vibe. Every stitch tells a story from a collar imitating Chicago’s organized grid streets to an insole reminiscent of its majestic skyline. And for those night-time adventurers, the 3M reflective details come alive under dim lights. Grounding this masterpiece is a Sail midsole equipped with the quintessential Air Max heel units, standing proudly on a Blue and Black rubber outsole.

the Nike Air Max 1 SC “Noise Aqua” appears similar to the waves that change shades in response to the movement of the sun in the sky. The upper part of the shoe is constructed using a mesh painted in “Phantom Dust,” which creates a muted background.

This enables the other pigments to stand out more effectively. The outer layer is further defined by numerous layers of cool gray suede reinforcements. These suede inserts feel as smooth as foam from the ocean.

However, the eponymous Noise Aqua hue is evident on the guards. It draws your interest since it provides a burst of vivid color to the neutral backdrop. The shoe’s typically subdued color scheme is brightened up wonderfully by the inclusion of these aqua details, which call to mind the warm waters of the tropics.

In addition to this, there are striking whites on the Nike Swoosh as well as on the midsole, which provide an esthetic sharpness that is comparable to the way that sunlight reflects off of water.

Sneaker enthusiasts who are aware of ecological concerns are also going to appreciate the subtle use of repurposed Grind Rubber that is interspersed all across the rubber outer sole units of the footwear. This is a gesture towards the environmentally sound activities that Nike Inc. is undertaking.

A fierce spotted design takes over the Nike Air Max 1 Leopard in a trend-focussed update. As the latest shoe to join the Swoosh brand’s animal print pack, the AM 1’s signature layered upper is transformed with a touch of inspiration from the Big Cat.

Leopard printed fabric wraps around the sneaker, travelling from the toe to the heel, while neutral leather and mesh panels are present to complement Nike’s bold aesthetic. To add to the Air Max 1’s wild theme, pony hair features on the Swoosh and over a panel beneath the lace unit to provide a contrasting texture.

Hits of orange then brighten up the design on branded patches at the tongue and heel, coordinating with the eyelets. Under foot, a white Air infused midsole is present to support and cushion every step.

Adopting the same altered silhouette as the rest of the pack, this pair is likely to be very high in demand amongst sneakerheads across the globe. Decked out in a pure white colourway that’s set off with hits of grey, the pair is crafted from supple leather and athletic mesh for a comfortable and modern take on the classic 1987 Tinker Hatfield design.

The Swoosh on the quarter panel and mini Swoosh on the toebox is seen in grey as well with the signature wavy mudguard seen in white. Lighter hits of gray act as complementary hits as they spill onto the Swooshes, mesh panels on the toe boxes and collars as well as the co-branded tongues and miniature Nike checks that are embroidered into the forefoot. Midsole pieces are fashioned with an off-white outer which supplies the sneakers with a touch of vintage flair.
