In honor of Air Max Day on March 26th, Nike has been unveiling some colorful Air Max\u2019s with the \u201cHave A Nike Day\u201d name attached.<\/p>\n
Of course, that particular slogan harkens back to an old commercial from the Beaverton brand, that celebrates the company\u2019s history. Utilizing a similar design technique mastered on the Undefeated x Air Max 97.<\/p>\n
While the brand has opted for these colorful Air Max models, it appears as though they are going for some light blue alternatives and that aesthetic is now making its way to the Air Max 97.<\/p>\n
The sneaker is wrapped in a tonal blue upper, constructed from mesh, nubuck and canvas in different shades of blue ranging from light to dark. One of the shades is a darker blue while the other one is more of a cloudy blue. These shades alternate throughout the upper. There is also a stripe of white throughout the shoe with \u201cHave A Nike Day\u201d branding written multiple times. The sneaker is then finished with white embroidered Swoosh branding, a full-length white midsole, a blue air unit and a Swoosh-adorned smiley face on the lacing unit.<\/p>\n
The Air Max 97 was first released in 1997 as a running shoe. Designed by Christian Tresser, its look was said to be inspired by high-speed Japanese bullet trains and alternatively the titanium metal frames on mountain bikes,<\/p>\n
Taken for granted now, but a new technology at the time, the hidden lacing system on the Air Max 97 was a first. Compared to the Scotchlite dazzle of that 360-degrees of reflectivity and the silver shine on those synthetic panels, this concealed element of Christian Tresser\u2019s design is easy to ignore, but it was an important detail.<\/p>\n
